LOCAL STUDENTS SOUND OFF IN FOURTH ANNUAL TRUMPET WARS
Trumpets4Kids competition kicks off with special performances, prizes, and clinics
FORT WORTH (March 3 2018) - Trumpets4Kids, a nonprofit initiative that provides at risk students with trumpets, will hold its Fifth Annual Trumpet Wars competition March 3, 2018 at the Woman's Club of Fort Worth (1316 Pennsylvania Avenue Fort Worth, TX 76104). The competition is for elementary, middle and high school students and features professional-led clinics, with prizes being given to top performers. Special guest performances will include trumpeter Courtney Jones, and other special guess. This is a community event and attendance is free. Trumpets4Kids is a program that empowers kids to create, listen and act both independently and together through music. Founded by trumpeter Freddie Jones in 2007, the program exposes children to classical and jazz music at an early age, instilling creativity and newfound confidence. Students who can’t afford a trumpet are able to apply for one with Trumpets4Kids. When they receive their trumpet, students must agree to practice one hour a day, maintain the instrument, and perform for their peers to inspire and motivate each other. Trumpet Wars is a free, community event to showcase these students’ talents and allow them to inspire others along their musical journey. The competition will include a special presentation of Berklee City Music program Pulse. After the performance, competitors will go through three rounds of judging with prizes awarded to the top groups.
